LECTURES and PRESENTATIONS

Singing is Believing:  Examining Cultures Through Folk a Cappella Traditions

Presented for schools, universities and community groups, this two hour talk and demonstration compares rhythmic a cappella traditions of Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas, inviting the audience to sing along.  We explore work songs, play songs, lullabies, throat singing games and songs for dancing without instruments, as the music creates a global context for common experiences around the world.

To book a presentation call (510) 530-7826 or e-mail pamswan@pamswan.com

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE

A week-long program of international folk a cappella.  Participants learn both music and the work, game or dance associated with it in various cultures.  Activities include waulking wool with Scottish waulking songs, playing Inuit throat-singing games, singing for Thai circle dances, Georgia Sea Island playsongs, and much more.

Pam is pleased to present several Mouth Music workshops in Northern California this year.

By popular request we are beginning another series of student workshops this spring at the Mosswood Arts Center in Oakland.  Anyone is welcome to attend, no experience necessary, but advance registration is required.
